Teacher Gifts

Teachers deserve everything and more! When it comes to the end of the year I always try to make it special. I asked my Instagram followers for their thoughts on gifts, how much they spend, who they get gifts for and asked the teachers to tell us some of their favorite gifts. Here’s a round up of those suggestions and some of my own…

The average price polled for a main teacher was $30. I saw prices in the $15 range and some as high as $75, but the average was $30.

Not as many people said that they necessarily give specials teachers end of the year gifts, but I like to try to do a little something. For those who also like to give out gifts to special teachers the average price spent was $15. When I mention specials teachers I consider that to be art teachers, music teachers, physical education teachers, counselors, reading teachers, tutors, counselors, nurses, principals, etc. If my kid’s have received extraordinary care from any of these individuals I like to acknowledge them and how much I appreciate what they do for my kiddo.

I have been particularly impacted for the better by many coaches growing up so I always think they’re worth doing something special for at the end of the season. Especially when the kiddos are younger too and you’ve got coaches who simply volunteer they’re worth making feel appreciated. My personal favorite is when some organized parent or guardian collects $$ and gives something from the whole team, but if that doesn’t happen I like to do something small. When polling my followers on Instagram they also agreed they like to do something for coaches and most spent on average $20 for coaches.

When polling my Instagram followers I wanted to hear it straight from those who matter, the teachers themselves. Here are some real examples from teachers on favorite gifts that they have received…

  • A few teachers who responded that they appreciated the personalized items. I think personalized items always show a bit of advance thought and extra time spent thinking of someone.

  • I had a couple teachers mention wine and that’s probably because they had one of my kids. If you know your teacher likes wine here are a few good bottles to get- Whispering Angel Rose, Decoy Cabernet Sauvignon, and Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc.

  • Venmo, CashApp and PayPal are the best things ever! I also know some teachers mentioned they would just love some cash and this is a quick and easy way to send it. If you’re short on time? Aren’t we all? Just shoot over an electronic cash gift and you can guarantee you’ll have a thankful teacher.

  • Gift cards of course are a go to and it makes perfect sense. Here are some places to snag a gift card I suggest that might not be the normal choices. Best part about these cards is they can be bought on Amazon. DoorDash, Lyft, Southwest Airlines, Spotify, or Airbnb.

  • Thoughtful cards was something that many teachers mentioned over and over that was appreciated.

  • Along with cards a handwritten note from a student was a big request from teachers.

  • One teacher shared a cool idea where a parent asked her the last week of school to pick a restaurant and the parent brought the teacher lunch.

  • Group gifts are great because it can really be stretched far. A teacher shared an example where the parents pooled together to get her a $500 gift card to a spa!

  • Coffee cups and coffee gift cards are always appreciated I’m told.

  • A teacher told me how much she appreciated the custom ornaments and how each year while decorating she always reaches out to those students and families to thank them for their gift.

  • Yetis, Brumates, Hydroflasks, and Corkcicles are one of my favorite gifts to give so I was excited to see it mentioned by a handful teachers.

  • I created a video last year full of pictures from the year and some video messages from the kids. It was a good way to give the teacher something personal from the students but didn’t require her to have to store a book, photo album, etc.

  • Yeti Tumblers- Even if a teacher already has a Yeti tumbler, you can NEVER have enough.

  • Chanel Nail Polish- With gift giving I like to sometimes give something that’s unreasonably priced normally, but in your gift budget so it’s sort of a luxury item. Would you buy $28 nail polish on a Tuesday normally? Probably not, but you were going to spend $30 for a teacher gift so how about a luxurious Chanel polish with some cute ribbon and a note?

  • Sharpies- No one doesn’t not want Sharpies so a fresh pack is always appreciated.

  • Confetti Glass Candles- Some might seem them as over rated, but a pretty candle from Anthropologie is always a treat in my opinion.

  • Vintage Bluetooth Speaker- This speaker would be super fun on a teacher’s desk. Fun color and great sound potential.

  • Plant Wooden Signs- These cute signs from Etsy are such a fun accessory to throw in a succulent or other plant for your favorite teacher.

  • Personalized Teacher Journal- You can customize this journal with a teacher’s name and if you’d like you can add a calendar option, or a planner option as well.

  • Bauble Bar Inspire Bracelet- I have Bauble Bar bracelets with my kids’ names on them and they’re amazing quality. This inspire bracelet is too cute and is delicate, but a statement.

  • Ember Temperature Controlled Mug- If there’s anyone who needs to keep their coffee at an ideal temperature, it’s a teacher. The Ember mug won’t let your favorite teacher’s coffee get too cold during attendance, morning story, taking lunch orders, etc, etc, etc….

  • Summer Barefoot Dreams Blanket- Barefoot Dreams are some of my favorite throw blankets. They’re also perfect for the summer time, because they aren’t too heavy. I don’t know many people who don’t appreciate a good throw blanket for the fire pit or on the couch for movie night. I love this print too.

  • Kendra Scott Bangle- A simple classy bangle is a perfectly classy piece for a wow factor gift.

  • Personalized Pencils- A bundle of cute personalized pencils from a small business is a gift that gives in more ways than one.

  • Wine Bag- This wine bag is too cute and who doesn’t love a pun?

You don’t have to spend much at all to let a teacher know you care. Sit down with your kiddo and spend 20 minutes writing them a letter. Teachers deserve the world.
